Why Vintages Matter
A vintage is the year the grapes were harvested. Climate variation—sunlight, rain, frost—significantly affects the sugar, acid, and tannin levels in the fruit, which ultimately defines the wine's quality and style.
Peak Drinkability
Not all wine improves with age. Most white wines and many entry-level reds are designed for immediate consumption. Our 'Ready' indicator marks the sweet spot where complexity is highest before the wine begins to fade.
WSET Tip
In WSET exams, understanding vintage variation is key for Level 3 and Diploma. Focus on how weather patterns (like a late frost or a rainy harvest) impact the final Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) notes.
